Twins 3B Jose Miranda commits embarrassing baserunning blunder (Video)

Jose Miranda baserunning blunder, Tigers vs. Twins, 4/12/2025

Minnesota Twins third baseman Jose Miranda committed an inexcusable baserunning blunder during Saturday's game against Detroit by getting tagged out after making an incorrect assumption that he was forced out.

It happened in the bottom of the eighth inning with one out after Miranda came off the bench to pinch-hit for Edouard Julien and reached base with a single. Twins batter Christian Vazquez hit a grounder to Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson. Torkelson turned and threw to second baseman Colt Keith to get the force-out, but Keith missed the bag with his back foot. Second base umpire Malachi Moore correctly called Miranda safe at second as Keith held back on throwing the ball to first.

Unfortunately, Miranda not only failed to reach second base with his slide, but also failed to see that Moore called him safe. As a result, Miranda began jogging back to the dugout. Shortstop Trey Sweeney alerted Keith, who tagged Miranda just as he had realized his mistake.

Baserunning gaffes can happen if you are not paying attention on the basepaths. At the very least, you have to pay attention to the umpire's call. Miranda made an assumption, and as we all know, you should never assume.

The Twins lost the game 4-0 and are now last in the American League Central division with a record of 4-11.
