Luis Garcia kicked in groin by teammate, Mets vs. Nationals, 4/27/2025

Washington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. caught a fly ball and managed to hold onto it despite being accidentally kicked in the groin by his teammate during Sunday's game against the New York Mets.

It happened in the top of the second inning with runners on first and second and nobody out as the Mets build a 5-0 lead. Mets batter Mark Vientos hit a fly ball to shallow right-center field. Garcia chased it from the infield while right fielder Alex Call chased it from the outfield. As Garcia was ready to make the over-the-shoulder catch, Call tried to slide to get out of his way.

Garcia made the catch, but as Call slid to the ground, he kicked his left leg up right into Garcia's groin, taking him down hard.

Garcia held onto the ball for the out (with Juan Soto advancing from second to third on the tag). He was down for a while, but managed to stay in the game.

This is not the first time a player has been hit in the groin this series, as Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was tagged in the groin on a stolen base attempt yesterday. Just another reminder to the kids at home to always wear your cup.

Soto would come around to score in the inning to extend the Mets lead to 6-0, but in the end, the Nationals would come all the way back to win 8-7. Despite the loss, the Mets still have the best record in major league baseball.
