New York Knicks small forward Mikal Bridges played the opening six seconds of Sunday's regular season finale against Brooklyn purely so he can keep his consecutive games streak alive.
Sunday's game is insignificant in the grand scheme of things for the Knicks, who have locked up the number 3 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, so most of their starters were resting for the playoffs. Bridges, however, had a streak of 556 consecutive games played heading into Sunday and obviously wanted to keep it alive. So, Bridges did the bare minimum to keep his streak going.
Six seconds after the opening tip, Bridges committed a personal foul on Nets guard Tyrese Martin, then checked himself out of the game.
Mikal Bridges started, committed a foul, and checked out after 6 seconds just so he could keep up his streak of games played ðŸ˜

Bridges has a long way to go to break the record of 1,192 consecutive games set by AC Green back in 2001.
We fully support trying to set a record if you have a chance to do it. However, this feels a bit like Bridges is cheating the system. If you look at the box score, it will show that Bridges played zero minutes. Seems like at the very least, a player should have to be in the game for at least a minute to get credit for playing in a game. Rules are rules, but this seems like a loophole that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver should look into.
